Pompeii, Italy.

In the summer of 79 AD Mount Vesuvius erupted for several days burying the city of Pompeii in ash. Those that did not escape were suffocated and buried where they collapsed. The city was discovered in 1748 by a surveying Engineer. As the city was excavated the bones of many bodies were found. When bones were discovered there would be a void around the bones that had been originally filled with flesh and clothing. By pumping in plaster of paris to the void before the bones were fully exposed it was possible to see what the people looked like and what they were wearing. Several of the photos show the resultant forms.
